The limestone cliffs are home Meschers cave dwellings and offer a remarkable view of the Gironde estuary.
These cavities in the cliff are the result of the dissolution of limestone and carved out by man.
Occupation dates back to the Gallo-Roman period and since, they have always been inhabited. Wreckers, shipwrecked, brigands, Protestants have often found refuge.
Two sites comprising a set of caves can be visited,
March to November:
• The Caves of Matata
• The Caves of Municipal Regulus
Another place to visit:
Trogloscope the mill restored and turned into a mini cinema. Open in summer.
